List of state capitols in the United States

A Capitol normally housed in the United States, the meeting place of the legislation and the offices of the governor of the state, but this is not true in all States. The Arizona State Capitol is only a museum, the legislature and the governor's office are located in nearby buildings. The legislatures of Alabama, Nevada and North Carolina meet as well in nearby buildings, but the offices of the governor are still in the Capitol. Except Arizona has only Virginia is not the governor's Capitol office, the latter being used in Delaware, Ohio, Michigan and Vermont only for ceremonial purposes.

In nine states, the Supreme Court also meets regularly in the Capitol Indiana, Kentucky, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma ( both civil and criminal ), Pennsylvania ( one of three sites ), South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The other 40 states have separate buildings for their supreme courts, in Minnesota and Utah, the Supreme Court also held ceremonial events at the Capitol.

Eight states named their Capitol statehouses: Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Iceland, South Carolina and Vermont. In Alabama meets the legislation in the State House. Indiana and Ohio have statehouses and the remaining 40 States have facilities named Capitol.
