Love Takes Time is a song by American singer Mariah Carey. The song was written by her and Ben Margulies, and produced by Walter Afanasieff. It appeared on Carey's debut album, Mariah Carey (1990). The song was released in the third quarter of 1990 as the second single from the album. It was the first of several adult contemporary -influenced Carey ballads that were released as a single. In the song, the protagonist is separated from her boyfriend, the protagonist is unhappy and after a long time returns her love for her ex-boyfriend back. In the United States and Canada the song Mariah Carey became second number -one hit, but in other countries the single was feieren no major successes.
Background
Mariah Carey's debut album was completed after she wrote with Ben Marguiles Love Takes Time. Marguiles said: "We quickly took on a demo recording. There was a piano - vocal recording - I played piano and sang Mariah Carey ".
On a mini-tour Carey presented the acoustic piano version with three background singers before. Later Mariah Carey Love Takes Time to Columbia Records presented President Don Jenner. "All the important person was involved, " recalls Marguiles. " Tommy Mottola, Jenner and Bobby Colomby. The demo recording was Mariah Carey, Walter Afanasieff, the producer. I said, ' What shall I do for you then? ' and he said ' You've only got a few days time, but are you ready to produce the song? ' I could not believe that this was my chance to become a producer. I never had anything real produced up to that time. "
According Afanasieff the demo recording corresponded exactly to the ideas of Mottola. " We produced the music within a day. We had the song on this day produce, or it would no longer appeared on Carey's debut album. The director for music video led Jeb Brien and Walter Maser. In the music video Mariah Carey is running on a beach after her boyfriend left her. The music video was filmed in Venice Beach, Los Angeles. The music video did not appear on Carey's Album # 1 's ( 1999), instead, a live performance of the song at Proctor 's Theatre in New York City from the year 1993.

Love Takes Time was another chart success for Mariah Carey. The song could build on the success of their debut single, Vision of Love and was in the United States, her second number -one hit.
