Fly Like a Bird is a song by American singer Mariah Carey from her tenth music album The Emancipation of Mimi ( 2005). The song was written and produced by her and James " Big Jim " Wright. It was released on 3 April 2006 as the last single from the album. In the song, the protagonist speaks to God: " Fly like a bird, take to the sky, I need you now Lord, carry me high! "

Background

Carey wrote the song and composed the melody, while Wright dealt with the song structure. Carey later wrote the rest of the song and asked her pastor, Clarence Keaton, if he can talk in song.
