Someday is a song by American singer Mariah Carey. It was written by Carey and Ben Margulies, and produced by Ric Wake. It was released on 13 December 1990 as the third single from her debut album Mariah Carey. The single reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100
Musically, the song contains influences from R & B- pop and new jack swing.
Someday won in the United States again a BMI Pop Award.
Background
Someday was one of five songs on the demo recording, which gave Brenda K. Starr Sony boss Tommy Mottola, which eventually led that Mariah Carey got a record deal. Sony made some alterations to the demo recordings; the horn melodies were replaced by electric guitars and the end of the song was cut by 8 seconds. Carey and Margulies had to accept changes to the recording and Carey sang the song after a few concerns but one. Nevertheless, Carey was unhappy after singing the new recording because the recording was changed too much, according to her, and had thereby lost its quality.
Music Video
The director for music video led Larry Jordan, it was filmed in the Bayonne High School in Bayonne, New Jersey and shows a boy, a girl who mistreated and abused and they now want it back again in his life. In one scene appear Hip hop breakdancer in the video, which dance with Mariah Carey. There one sees also the drummer Larry Wright, which uses different objects as drums in the video. There was also a second, longer music video was added, this was never published.

Someday reached after eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Carey's third number -one hit in the United States. It was, from March 3 to March 16, 1991, two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 It solved the time Whitney Houston's All The Man That I Need from the tip off and was even replaced by Timmy T's One More Try. Someday reached 13th place in 1991 in the United States in the annual charts. The Recording Industry Association of America recorded the song with gold.
