Never Too Far / Hero Medley is a medley recording of American singer Mariah Carey from her Greatest Hits album. The song was written by Mariah Carey and Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and produced. In 2001, after the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 the medley was released as a charity single. The medley combines the first verse of her song Never Too Far, with the verse and the bridge of Hero " (1993). The medley is to be a message of eternal love after the terrorist attacks.

Background

The medley was released only in the United States. Originally Hero was ( a single from Carey's album Music Box ) is a number-one hit in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, Never Too Far ( a single from the soundtrack album Glitter ) missed the American charts. The medley Never Too Far / Hero Medley reached after its release only place 83 on the Billboard Hot 100 It was only three weeks in the American charts and remained commercially unsuccessful. With the income of the charity single should be helping victims of the terrorist attacks. All proceeds eventually went to Heroes Fund, a charity for the victims of the attacks and their families.

VH1 and MTV radiated from live performances of the song, which also served as music videos, where Carey medley at the United We Stand: What More Can I Give Concert sings. Carey sang the song with the Irish boy band Westlife at the Top of the Pops Awards 2001, which had previously been on her single Against All Odds ( Take a Look at Me Now) ( 2000) collaborated with Carey. Al B. Rich and Mike Rizzo took on remix versions of the medley.

In Japan, Never Too Far / Hero Medley was popular and successful, thus the medley later appeared as a bonus track in the Japanese version of Carey Greatest Hits album.

The B-side of the medley There for Me was played by American radio stations more frequently than the medley. There for Me was produced by Carey and written by her along with Diane Warren. There for Me was originally written for Carey's album Rainbow ( 1999). The song later appeared on the B-side of Never Too Far / Hero Medley as a "gift" for Carey's fans and the sales of the charity single to boost.
