Luciano Spinosi

Luciano Spinosi ( born May 9, 1950 in Rome, Italy ) is a retired Italian footballer and current coach.

During his playing career was Spinosi defender. He is currently working as assistant coach at AS Livorno.

Playing career

In the club

Luciano Spinosi began his career at Tevere Roma, where he spent two years playing in Serie D. In 1967 he moved to AS Roma. For the Roma, he debuted on May 12, 1968 in the game against AC Torino in Serie A.

For the 1970/71 season Luciano Spinosi moved to Juventus, where he spent four years as a regular player and was until 1978 under contract. For Juve, he completed a total of 241 games, scoring four goals and was five Italian championships and the 1977 UEFA Cup win.

In 1978 Spinosi went back to AS Roma, where he spent the next four seasons. With Roma he succeeded in this time twice winning the Coppa Italia. For the 1982/83 season he moved to Hellas Verona, where he remained only one year. Then Spinosi moved to AC Milan in season 1984/85 he finally ended his career at AC Cesena in Serie B.

In the National Team

After three U-21 internationals 1969-1971 Luciano Spinosi was appointed to the Italian national football team. He debuted on June 9, 1971 at 0:0 against Sweden. In the following years he was a regular in the Squadra Azzurra and was also at the Football World Cup 1974 in Germany in the squad of Italy. However, the Azzurri already dropped out in the first round. After Luciano Spinosi was never recalled to the national team, so was the last group match of the World Cup against Poland, which they lost 1:2, his last international game - at the age of only 24 years. Overall Spinosi completed 19 caps for Italy, while scored a goal.

Coaching career

Immediately after the end of his professional career Luciano Spinosi began his coaching career in the youth department of AS Roma. Already in the following year he coached the Primavera, the team of the highest age in the Italian youth football. After he was able to celebrate with the team some success ( they won the championship, the Torneo di Viareggio and the Coppa Italia ) and many youth players, including Francesco Totti, was introduced to the professional squad, Spinosi joined the U.S. Lecce in Serie B his first job as head coach. He then worked at Ternana Calcio in Serie C1.

In 1996, Luciano Spinosi assistant coach Sven-Goran Eriksson at Sampdoria. The following year he moved together with the Lazio Sweden to Rome, where he, in turn, was assistant coach until 2004, first under Eriksson, and later under Dino Zoff, Alberto Zaccheroni and Roberto Mancini. The capital club won Spinosi 1999/2000 Scudetto, three times the Coppa Italia and the 1999 European Cup Winners' Cup, the Italian Super Cup and the European Super Cup.

Since March 2007 Spinosi works as assistant coach Fernando Orsi at AS Livorno.
