1972–73 Serie A

The Serie A 1972/73 was the 40th season of the Italian Serie A. The season began on September 24, 1972 and ended on 20 May 1973. Promoted as Ternana Calcio, SS Lazio and Palermo came from Serie B to do so. The championship is won Juventus for the second time in a row. By winning the championship Juventus allowed to participate in the European Champions Cup in 1973/74. For the UEFA Cup to Lazio, ACF Fiorentina, Inter Milan and AC Turin qualified. The vice- champions AC Milan qualified as winning the Coppa Italia for the Europa Cup Winners' Cup in 1973/74. Relegated to the B series had to Atalanta, Palermo and Terni.

The 1972/73 season went as torärmste season of Serie A history in the annals: Never before and never again should so few goals per game covered (1.87 on average per game). Ironically, falls into this season but also the highest-scoring game in history in Serie A - the 9:3 between AC Milan and Atalanta Bergamo.
