Main-Lahn Railway

The Main -Lahn -Bahn ( train or even Limburger Taunus route called ) is a two-track, electrified main line between Frankfurt am Main and Eschhofen in Limburg ( Lahn).

History

Since 1850, has been given to a leading right through the Taunus range between the Main and Lahn. With the track construction but only started due to the Prussian law of 25 March 1872. The concession was awarded the Hessian Ludwig Railway (HLB ). Construction began from Eschhofen and each finished section initially served mainly the material transport to further promote the construction. The first section between Eschhofen and Niederselters was opened to traffic on 1 February 1875 a total of the line was opened on 15 October 1877.

The branch from the low- Bahnhof Wiesbaden main station, called " Ländchesbahn ", was opened on July 1, 1879.

From 1911 to 1913, the line was expanded to double track, electrified in 1971 between high and low Hausen, 1986 between Niedernhausen and Limburg.

The Eppsteiner tunnel was Easter in 2013 replaced by a new building, as the old tunnel had to be urgently rehabilitated and this would have been possible under running operating only with years of significant barriers to the rail transport task under the S -Bahn clock. In addition, a new building is cheaper in the long run, even as a new concrete shell inside the old tunnel whose cross-section would have reduced to the extent that he could no longer be driven on two tracks, and therefore for the opposite direction anyway a new tunnel would be built. Easter 2013, the tracks were pivoted on both sides of the tunnel from the old into the new tunnel over the course of 4 days.

Operation

Operation with steam locomotives ended 1972. 1978 began the operation of the S -Bahn line S2 between Frankfurt (Main ) Hbf and low living. On the S -Bahn line today operate electric railcars of series 420 (usually only during rush hour ) and 423 since the beginning of 2006, the SE and RE trains with locomotives of the series 143 and traveled since 2008 Doppelstockwagen the currently latest generation. In addition, at the weekend on the section of Limburg to Niedernhausen also LINT the Vectus traffic mbH, which continue on the Ländchesbahn to Wiesbaden.

Eppsteiner tunnel

In conjunction with the construction of the tunnel Eppsteiner Eppstein station was rebuilt. In the old, no longer used by the railroad, in 2007 restored listed building receiving an administrative center of the city ( city office ) and a café culture has been established. The also listed goods shed has been demolished it. The tunnel construction also led to a new track guide in the station area, including newly added platforms. The redesign of the open spaces did not begin until late 2009. The tunnel went in early April 2013. We have invested 30 million euros in the tunnel structure. The old tunnel is to mostly be filled and become a bat home.
