Martina Schröter

Martina Schröter ( born November 16, 1960 in Weimar) is a former rower, which was established in 1988 for the East German Olympic gold medalist in the double sculls.

1977 won Schröter in Spartakiade in the double sculls and quadruple sculls. In 1978, she became Junior World Champion in One. In 1979, she was at the World Championships in adult category second behind the Romanian Sanda Toma. Toma also won the One - competition at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Schröter here was third behind the Russian Antonina Machina.

Schröter in 1982 was runner-up in the double sculls together with Kerstin Kirst. A year later she won the world championship with Jutta Schenk. 1985 Schröter was world champion again, this time with Sylvia Schwabe. 1987 Martina Schröter stepped up to the World Cup in one and was second behind the Bulgarian Magdalena Georgieva. At the end of her career Schröter came at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in the double sculls together with Birgit at Peter. The two rowers won the gold medal ahead of the Romanians.

Martina Schröter competed for the SG Dynamo Potsdam. She trained first at Barbara Müller, Jörg later Landvoigt. She studied alongside their sporting careers dentistry.

1984 and 1986 Schröter received the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold. In 1988 she was awarded the Order of Friendship of Nations star in gold.
