Meissen (district)

The district of Meißen is a district in the Free State of Saxony. It comprises the core area of the former Margraviate of Meissen and operational since 1 August 2008.

Geography

The district of Meißen is a district in the northern center of the Free State of Saxony, by the same flows. Neighboring districts are the Brandenburg counties Oberspreewald -Lausitz and the Elbe -Elster, in the eastern part of the district of Bautzen, in the southeast of the district-free city Dresden, Saxony in the southern district of Switzerland & Eastern Ore Mountains, in the southwestern district of Central Saxony, and in the northwest of the district of North Saxony in the north.

History

The county was formed in the wake of the Saxon district local government reform in 2008 from the union of the "old " district Meißen with the district Riesa -Großenhain. The two predecessor groups were 1994 and 1996 respectively formed in the first Saxon district reform after the turn.

Policy

District

On 8 June 2008, the district election took place in the district of Meißen. Arndt Steinbach (CDU ) prevailed with 56.7% of the vote against five competitors in the first ballot. He is therefore the first District Administrator of the newly formed.

The council of the district of Meissen was also elected on 8 June 2008. The 92 seats on the council are distributed as follows among the individual parties:

The fractions CDU and FDP have decided together with the three county councils of the Free Voters cooperation for the term, the SPD and the Greens form a Zählgemeinschaft.

Coat of arms

The county coat of arms depicts a on golden background inside a red interior Bordes upright, turned-over to the right, rotbewehrten, black lion with red rash forming tongue dar. It attacks the coat of arms of the former Margrave of Meissen and complements it around the inner board. The choice of this coat of arms expresses that the county Meissen covers an area that is synonymous with the historic center of the former Margraviate of Meissen. The modified version was adopted on 19 March 2009 by the county because were violated by the previous version of the heraldic rights society "Black Lion".

Logo

The blue wave symbolizing the river Elbe, which runs through the county, the green check mark the picturesque banks of the Elbe, where already for 800 years, thrives estimated by connoisseurs Meissner wine.

Economy

The region was completely changed with the loss of the existing economic structure after the turn. Health service

Meissen for its 1863 "Work and Tend house" built. For the present there infirmary for acutely ill inmates to the hospital in the Hospital Street, which was replaced in 1998 by the new building in Meissen Bohnitzsch arose. Since 1992, the Meissner hospital includes a medical training college.

In Radebeul it was a club for healing nature and natural history, of the so-called Stone House in Niederlößnitz opened the first hospital in the area of Dresden in 1849. The building is still part of today's Elbe Hospital. It was extensively renovated a few years ago.

The former acute care hospital in Großenhain a rehab clinic in cooperation with the Recura Kliniken GmbH Radeburg and a medical center was built.

The Recura clinics also operate the Hospital for Pneumology, Allergology, Respiratory Medicine and Thoracic and Vascular Surgery in Coswig with about 200 beds, and the Geriatric Rehabilitation Clinic Radeburg.

Tourism

Tourism and tourism are the lifeblood of the county. The district enjoys a good reputation for tourism. Every year stay more than 1/2 million people in the county. The county consists of 31 municipalities, ten of which have a town charter. The cities Coswig Großenhain, Meißen, Riesa Radebeul and carry the special name of a large district town. Currently, there are five administrative communities in the district of Meißen.

Largest city was on December 31, 2011 Radebeul with about 33,800 inhabitants, followed by Riesa with about 33,500 inhabitants and the county town of Meissen with about 27,600 inhabitants. The most populous city is non- Klipphausen with about 10,500 inhabitants, with around 10,300 inhabitants before Weinbohla and Moritzburg, with about 8,300 inhabitants. The Einwohnerschwächste community is Leuben - Schleinitz, the city with the fewest inhabitants Strehla.

Of area, the largest municipality is the district capital of the Grand Grove, followed by Klipphausen and the community Ebersbach.
