Miklós Szabó (middle-distance runner)

Miklós Szabó [ Miklos ː ʃ sɒbo ː ] ( born December 6, 1908 in Budapest, † December 3, 2000 ) was a Hungarian middle distance runner.

1934 saw the first European Athletics Championships held in Turin. In the 1500 -meter run Luigi Beccali won in 3:54,8 minutes ago Miklós Szabó in 3:55,4 minutes. Two days later, Szabó fought in the finals of the 800 -meter run again with an Italian for the win. Szabó won by objective judges decision after he and Mario Lanzi were stopped with 1:52,0 minutes.

At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 Szabo was eliminated in the semifinals in the 800 meters. In the 1500 -meter final, he finished seventh in 3:53,0 minutes. 1936, Szabo with 5:20,4 minutes set a world record over 2000 meters on, followed a year later with 8:56,0 minutes, a world record over two miles. His Weltjahresbestleistung 1937 over 1500 meters of 3:48,6 minutes meant European record. Overall, he put up 23 Hungarian records and won 16 league titles.

At a height of 1.74 m his competition weight was 66 kg. From 1947 to 1980 worked as a trainer Szabó in Sweden, before he returned to Hungary.
