Mims is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Brevard County in the U.S. state of Florida with 7,058 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Mims is located on the east coast of Florida on the Indian River, which forms part of the Intracoastal Waterway. Mims is bordered to the south by the city of Titusville and located about 60 km east of Orlando. The CDP is from Interstate 95 from U.S. Highway 1 (SR 5) and crossed by the Florida State Road 46.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 7,058 inhabitants distributed to 3,530 households. The population density was 137.6 inh. / Km ². 83.9 % of the population were white, 12.4% African American, 0.4% Native American and 0.7 % Asian Americans. 0.8 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.8% in different ethnic groups. 3.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 38.7 % of all households lived in 25.7 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 70.0% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.45 persons and the average family size was 2.87 persons.

21.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 17.8% were 20-39 years old, 31.2% were 40-59 years old and 29.6% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 48 years. 49.6 % of the population were male and 50.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 47,161, while 10.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 97.99 % of the population and 2.01 % had a different mother tongue.
