Geography

Geographical Location

Mögglingen is situated in 398-475 meters altitude in the upper Rems valley at the foot of the north-eastern Swabian Alb between Schwäbisch Gmünd (13 miles) and the county town of Aalen (11 km).

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Heuchlingen, to the east by Essingen, in the south on the town Heubach and to the west by Böbingen an der Rems.

Community structure

The municipality includes the village Mögglingen Mögglingen, the hamlet Hermann Field and the courtyards Christenhof, Gollenhof and Sternhof and dialed villages Hege hole Sulbach and Stöckach.

History

The first mention of Mögglingen place in the year 1143. The place was long the land territory of the imperial city of Schwäbisch Gmünd. When they fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss circuit 1803 also Mögglingen was part of Württemberg and belonged to the newly formed upper office Gmünd, starting in 1938 the district of Schwäbisch Gmünd. When it was dissolved by the district reform in 1973, Mögglingen went to the new Ostalb.

Religions

Mögglingen remained Catholic even after the introduction of the Reformation in Württemberg, as the majority of citizens and goods of the monasteries remained Catholic free imperial city of Gmünd belonged. The believers are now the parish in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul. An Evangelical Church was built in 1968. It belongs to the parish Oberböbingen. Of the inhabitants Mögglingens 58.2 % are Catholic, 21.0% Protestant, 20.8% belong to other faiths or no to.

In Mögglingen around 24 clubs operate. The most members are the Turnverein Mögglingen ( 1,863 members), the Musikverein Mögglingen ( 544 ) and the FC Stern Mögglingen ( 428).

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Regional express trains on the Rems Railway (Stuttgart - Aalen ) and the Federal Highway 29 ( Waiblingen- Nördlingen ) Mögglingen connect with the national transport networks. The nearest motorway junction is the connection point 115 ( Aalen / Oberkochen ) of the Federal Highway 7 in about 21 km from the B 29 direction Aalen and the L 1084.

The public transport is provided by the transport co Ostalb mobile.

Long distance routes

Several cycle paths traverse the community:

  • The Rems Rems accompanies the bike path up to its confluence with the Neckar.
  • The German Limes Cycle Route follows the Upper Germanic - Rhaetian Limes 818 km from Bad Hönningen am Rhein to Regensburg on the Danube.

Education

The Limes Mögglingen school has a primary and secondary school with Werkrealschule. There are also two Roman Catholic kindergartens.
