The Montreux train station is the largest railway station in the municipality of the Swiss town of Montreux. The long-distance and regional train station is served by almost all trains of the Simplon line of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and is also the starting point of the railway Montreux -Zweisimmen (Gold Pass) and to the Rochers de Naye.

History

Was opened the station in 1861, when the former Jura -Simplon -Bahn (JS) the section Lausanne -Villeneuve opened the railway line to Sion.

1901 was followed by the section between Montreux and higher district Les Avants of Montreux- Bernese Oberland Railway ( MOB), which took place after 1903, its sequel Montbovon.

In 1909, the railway line between Montreux and Glion today Transports Montreux- Vevey- Riviera ( MVR) was opened as a continuation of the already existing since 1892 cog railway between Glion and Les Rochers- de -Naye.

Location

The station is located on the hillside above the lake shore, the access to the main street Grand Rue is guaranteed by escalators, lifts and stairs. For access from the Old Town ago - situated on the other side of the railway lines as the lake shore - is the responsibility of the Rue de la Gare.

Plant

The station complex is in many ways a rarity: on the one hand, Montreux is the only station in Switzerland, where today still meet three different gauges: The standard gauge ( 1435 mm ) of rail line of the Swiss Federal Railways, meter gauge (1000 mm) of the Montreux- Bernese Oberland railway and the narrow gauge (800 mm) of the Transports Montreux- Vevey- Riviera.

On the other hand, the access from the reception building to house the railway platform, not on the ground floor. Due to the hillside location of the city it is located on the second floor, while the service facilities on the ground and the access to the underpass on the first floor can be found. In addition, the track is missing 2 This was a fast track without Perron edge. In 2006 it was provided in the course of increasing the Perrons to 55 cm with a platform edge and renamed track 1 - previous track 1 has been removed.

The Swiss Federal Railways has the main platform to the track 1 and on the track 3, which is located along with the tracks 4 ( eastern half ) and 5 ( western half ) of the Montreux- Bernese Oberland Railway on the center platform. The short length of track 4 separates the center platform on partially. The tracks 6, 7 and 8 are located at another center platform, which is also divided by fork- track 7. The track 8 Transports Montreux- Vevey- Riviera is also located at a hotel and the headquarters of the Gold Pass Group, the Gold Pass Center. While the tracks 4 and 7 are used for regional transport from and to Fontanivent, Sonzier and Les Avants, depart from platform 5 and 6 trains to and from Zweisimmen.
