Mouscron ( Mouscron dutch, pronunciation about Musskrunn ) is a city in the Walloon region of Belgium and is there in the province of Hainaut. Mouscron is the administrative seat of the eponymous arrondissement, which still includes the exclave hennegauische Comines Comines - except Mouscron.

Location

The city is located approximately 110 km west of the state capital of Brussels, close to the French border, about 10 km north-west of the major French city of Lille, at the Metro network, they should be connected in the future.

History

The first time Mouscron was mentioned in the year 1060.

Since September 1, 1963 Mouscron is due to the prevailing language French ( 94 % in 1846, 74 % in 1947 ) to the province of Hainaut and thus beaten to Wallonia, after it was previously part of West Flanders.

Today's church was in 1977 from the merger of four villages Mouscron, Luingne, Herseaux ( Herzeeuw ) and Dottignies ( Dottenijs ) out. Mouscron is community facilities; that is, public and administrative services are also offered in the language of the Flemish minority.

1986 Mouscron is officially declared a city after this term had already been used unofficially before.

Economy

Mouscron has long been a center of the Flemish textile industry.

The football club Excelsior Mouscron played temporarily in the First Division, the highest Belgian league.
