The MSC Lirica is a cruise ship of MSC Crociere SA The first new construction project of the shipping company was classified by Bureau Veritas and ship registered in Panama. The MSC Lirica has led to the commissioning of the MSC Musica in 2006 as the flagship of the shipping company.
History
Construction and commissioning
The ship was built with the hull number K32 at the shipyard Alstom Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint- Nazaire and delivered on 24 March 2003 to the shipping company. The naming ceremony took place in the port of Naples Sophia Loren.
Use
After the commissioning of the MSC Lirica was used for cruises in the Mediterranean. In the summer of 2013 she is traveling in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea. In winter they drove until February 2013 in the Caribbean, from the end of 2013, however, it should be used instead from Dubai in the Persian Gulf, where she was already over the winter season 2011/2012 with similar cruises in use.
From 31 August to 9 November 2015, the MSC Lirica is to be extended by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri to 275 m and equipped with modern technology and new ways to entertain guests. As part of the so-called " Renaissance " program of the shipping company is, both at her, as well as all other vessels in its construction class, the maximum permitted number of passengers increased by about 200 additional cabins to 2680.
Incidents
During a deposition maneuver in Civitavecchia MSC Lirica was pressed in a strong wind against the piers on 2 November 2007 and damaged in the bow on the port side. The ship was repaired between the 12th and 17th November 2007 at the dry dock and used on December 4 from Fort Lauderdale again ..
Machinery and drive
The diesel-electric machinery MSC Lirica consists of four generator sets, in each of which a 12 - cylinder diesel engine series 38 of the Finnish manufacturer Wärtsilä is coupled to a generator. The generator sets supply the entire ship with electrical energy. The waste heat from the engines is used, among other things, for drinking water treatment.
The actual propulsion of the ship is via two spaced tail propeller gondolas type Rolls- Royce " Mermaid " (Eng. Mermaid ). The built- in gondolas electric motors drive fixed pitch propeller. This technique allows a high maneuverability and developed little vibrations and noises.
Cabins and onboard facilities
The nine passenger decks of the MSC Lirica are named with the exception of the sun deck after famous Italian composer. The interior of the ship designed the Italian architects De Jorio. The ship has 780 cabins, which are divided into four categories and housed in the superstructure. With the exception of the suites they have the same size and amenities. The 372 outside cabins are equipped with large windows. The 132 suites have a balcony. Four inside cabins are built barrier-free. On this cruise ship, there are currently 30 outside cabins with obstruction due to lifeboats.
The MSC Lirica has four restaurants, eight bars and lounges and a disco. The theater ( " The Broadway Theater" ) spans two decks and offers more than 700 seats. The spa and wellness area includes an area of about 900 square meters.
