Niederbronn-les-Bains

Niederbronn- les- Bains ( German: Niederbronn ) is a French small town with 4339 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region.

Geography

The city is located on the eastern edge of the Northern Vosges to the Rhine Rift at Falkensteiner Bach.

History

Niederbronn- les- Bains was founded in 48 BC by the Romans, who discovered the healing power of the low Bronner sources. The first evidence of Roman bathing activities are in the area of today's casinos. In the 5th century, the settlement was destroyed during the unrest of the Migration Period to the victim.

Only under the Count of Hanau -Lichtenberg in the late 16th century, the springs were rediscovered. The family of industrialists De Dietrich is the sources since the 18th century owner. From Niederbronn- les- Bains are also the low Bronner sisters founded here in 1849 the Order of the Sisters of the Divine Savior, who today however is based in Oberbronn.

Economy and tourism

Niederbronn- les- Bains has two mineral springs, the source romaine and the source celtique. They help mainly in rheumatic and degenerative diseases. Even today are tourism and bathing in the center of the economy of Niederbronn- les- Bains. There is also a casino.

In Niederbronn -les -Bains, the archaeological museum of the Northern Vosges is located.

On the military cemetery Niederbronn rest 15,403 killed, 95% German soldiers, but also soldiers of other nations and civilians.

In 1993, the Youth Meeting Centre Albert Schweitzer was founded in order to arrange Franco-German meeting.

Attractions in the area include the ruins Wasenburg and the lookout tower on the Great Winterberg.

Niederbronn- les- Bains has since 2001 partnerships with Bad Schönborn.

Traffic

The municipality has a station on the route Haguenau - Niederbronn- les- Bains, which trains of TER Alsace is operated.

Sports

In Niederbronn- les- Bains ( a licensed offshoot of the Challenge Roth) was from 2008 to 2010 in early summer the Challenge France played - a triathlon over the middle distance. Approximately 1,200 athletes from all continents of the world here to the challenge over the distances 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running. The swim will take place in about 1.9 km instead of 19 km from Niederbronn distant lake of Mouterhouse, the subsequent cycling in the natural park of the North Vosges.
