Mouterhouse

Mouterhouse ( German: Mutterhausen ) is a commune of 287 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines and Bitche Canton.

Geography

Mouterhouse is located south of Bitche (French Bitche ) in the Forêt de domaniale Mouterhouse at an altitude 212-423 m above sea level. The population density is 7 people per km ². In the community, which comprises 42.6 square kilometers, created districts as

History

The town was named in 1518 " Munter living". Later it was " Moder living". " Hausen " is probably derived from a house. Whether the beginning of the name means a mother or river Moder, is not known.

Structures

  • In the district of Gros- Marteau there is a chapel and a reconstructed blacksmith, dated to 1763 and in 1764.
  • Chapel " Notre -Dame-de -la- Mercy " in Grünberg, dated to the 16th century
  • Remains of a hunting lodge dating from the 16th century on the High Weyersberg (Green Mountain )

Demographics

As a result of the First World War, the population levels decreased significantly.
