Ochánduri

Ochánduri is a place on the lower reaches of the river Tirón in the Spanish region of La Rioja with about 103 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Location

Ochánduri is located on the lower reaches of the river Tirón in the northwest of La Rioja province at an altitude of about 550 meters. Just 58 kilometers drive away the town of Logroño; the next largest cities are Haro (15 kilometers north-east ) and Miranda de Ebro (about 25 kilometers north ). Located on the Santiago small town of Santo Domingo de la Calzada is located only about 14 kilometers southeast.

Demographics

In the second half of the 19th century, the place always had 250-320 inhabitants. Due to the mechanization of agriculture and the resulting lower demand for labor, the population has declined significantly since the mid-20th century.

Economy

Traditionally the first place in the economic life of the community is agriculture and especially the wine - Ochánduri part of the growing region of Rioja Alta. In addition, wheat, barley, potatoes, and vegetables are cultivated. At the beginning of the millennium, a photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 600 KW was installed on a slight hill in the area.

History

In a deed of the year 1101 in favor of the monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla Ogganduri first mentioned. In 1160 Sancho VI conquered. of Navarre areas in the area of Logroño and Nájera; he transferred the Church of Ochánduri (and probably the whole site) to the monastery of Santo Domingo de la Calzada.

Attractions

  • The single late Romanesque church of Santa María de la Concepción was built in the period around 1200. Impressive is the leaf rosette and adorned Archivolts portal on the south side and designed in a manner similar arcs of the two apse window. The capitals are already badly destroyed; the figurative designed Konsolfiguren and capitals below the eaves of the vertically structured by half-columns templates apse are obtained, however, significantly better. The unadorned western facade is surmounted by a bell gable ( espadaña ).
  • The largely unadorned designed Ermita de la Virgen de Legarda is about a kilometer outside the town. Also it has the portal on the south side, while the west side is banked by a two-storey bell tower.
