Geography

The former municipality lies largely in the hills of the lower Lutherntals, partially also in the valley floor, and is located west of Schötz. The municipality consists of the two districts Ohmstal and Niederwil (535 m. Above sea level. M. ) in the valley, by the flows which Luthern. Niederwil lies between the Butt Mountain (616 m. Above sea level. M. ) in the east, the Niederwilhöhe (714 m. Above sea level. M. ) in the west and the Kirchberg ( 598 m. Above sea level. M. ) in the north. Previously there was the rest of the former township of small hamlets and farmsteads. Through the integration of the hamlet Grosslörzgen, Lower Bachmatt and Bachmatt now created a real village Ohmstal. Only in the west of the former town there are large wooded areas, so that only 26.6 % of the former township area is covered by forest. History

The area around Niederwil was probably settled very early. This can be at least suspect due to a stone ax found from prehistoric times. Omistal was first mentioned in the Acta Murensia the monastery Muri in 1160. The place belonged to the manor manors, which was a part of the ruled by the Habsburgs Office Willisau. After the Habsburgs had lost the battle of Sempach, it urged the city Lucerne to expand their realm. In 1407 she bought the Office Willisau, in which there was also Ohmstal. Until 1798, the community now belonged to the bailiwick Willisau. Then to the District Willisau and since then the newly created office until 1803 Willisau. Until 1819 Ohmstal and Niederwil were two separate communities which were merged because of their insignificant size.

On 11 March 2012, the voters of Ohmstal have agreed with 90 % in favor of a merger with the neighboring community Schötz ( yes- vote share in Schötz: 80%). This occurred on January 1, 2013.
