Osloß is a municipality in the district of Gifhorn in Lower Saxony. The community Osloß is a member congregation of the Samtgemeinde Boldecker country.

Geographical location

Osloß lies between the Southern Heath Nature Park and Drömling on the Aller. South of Osloß is the Barnbruch, an internationally recognized nature reserve.

History

The place name is derived from the Osloß nobleman Uslefs. They had here around 800 AD a castle or a castle. In 1274 Osloß appears under the name Osleue, 1309 states Uslussen and 1566 it is called Osselesse. Osloß 1883 almost totally destroyed by a great fire, and laid in the reconstruction of the Allerüberschwemmungsgebiet on a flood- safe location along the current federal highway B188.

From 1882 to 1977 Osloß was the site of a built in Neuhalderleben in 1816 windmill. This was in 1977 acquired by Gifhorn as only one of its kind and in 1980 left to the Museum and Folk Society Gifhorn as a historic landmark in the restored state. You can be admired now in Museum Gifhorn.

In today Osloß than 2,000 residents are located. The trade in Osloß is represented by several trade and craft shops and a restaurant. For the maintenance of health, a doctor's office is available. In addition to the primary school and the kindergarten there in Osloß a community center, which can be used for sports activities.

Mayor

Jens Dürkop ( WGO ) is 2011 honorary mayor since November 4. Its predecessors were Rudi Matz (2001-2011) and Rudolf Jahn (1996 - 2001), who also designed the coat of arms. Before that drew Valentin light for over 20 years the fortunes of the community.
