Oye-et-Pallet

Oye -et -Pallet is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Oye -et -Pallet is located 860 meters above sea level, about six kilometers south-southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the Haut- Doubs, slightly increased on the northern slope of the valley of the Doubs, at the southern foot of the Montagne du Laveron, north of Lac de Saint-Point.

The area of ​​10:45 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley of the Doubs, which has a maximum of one kilometer wide flat valley floor. Through this wide Talniederung meanders of the Doubs and drains the area to the northeast. Flanked the valley to the north of the plateau of Montagne du Laveron ( to 1011 m), in the southeast of the amount Crossart (1005 m). In the west of the municipality floor extends into the longitudinal recess of Malpas. To the south, the municipality's area extends to the shore of the Lac de Saint-Point in the area of the outlet of the Doubs. History

The first mention in writing Oye in a document of the monastery of Mont -Sainte- Marie in 1296. Oye Its name came originally from a Celtic word meaning water, while Pallet probably derives from the Latin word palus (bottom ). Since the Middle Ages Oye and Pallet belonged to the dominion Joux. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since the time of the French Revolution Oye and Pallet formed a double community.

In the 18th century iron mining in the municipality, which was smelted in the blast furnace of Pontarlier. With the opening of the tram, the wrong of Pontarlier via Mouthe after Foncine -le-Haut, Oye -et -Pallet was connected to public traffic in 1900. Population

With 697 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Oye -et -Pallet is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range of approximately 350 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Oye -et -Pallet has long been a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. Since the 19th century, the water power of the Doubs for the operation of mills and sawmills was used. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, including in the fields of construction and woodworking. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community; many homes serve as second homes. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is traffic- technically quite well developed. It lies on the secondary road D437 which leads from Pontarlier to Mouthe. Further road links exist with La Planée, Malpas and Saint-Point- Lac.
