Peter Adolphus McIntyre

Peter Adolphus McIntyre ( born July 19, 1840 in Petersville, Prince Edward Iceland, † July 16, 1910 ) was a Canadian politician. He was from 1874 to 1878 and from 1882 to 1889 of liberal deputies of the lower house. From 1899 to 1904 he served as Vice- Governor of the Province of Prince Edward Iceland.

Biography

McIntyre's paternal grandparents came from Scotland and settled about 1785 on the island down. He studied medicine at the Université Laval in Quebec and McGill University in Montreal. In 1867 he opened a practice in the town of Souris. In addition, he also worked as a coroner for Kings County. In 1872 he was given the task to oversee the construction of the Prince Edward Iceland Railway.

Following the accession of Prince Edward Iceland to Canadian Confederation, the cause of which included the construction of railways accumulated debt, McIntyre was a candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada to the House of Commons elections in 1874 and was elected Member of Parliament for Kings County. In 1878 he lost his seat, but won it back in 1882. In 1891 he was voted the second time, five years later, he ran without success. Governor General Lord Minto sworn McIntyre on 23 May 1899 as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Iceland. This representative office he held until October 3, 1904.
