Lloyd MacPhail

Robert Lloyd George MacPhail, CM ( born March 22, 1920 in New Haven, Prince Edward Iceland, † July 2, 1995 ) was a Canadian politician and businessman. From 1985 to 1990 he was Vice- Governor of the Province of Prince Edward Iceland.

After school MacPhail led for over three decades the family's grocery store and a trading company for agricultural equipment. As a member of the Prince Edward Iceland Progressive Conservative Party, he joined in 1961 at a by-election and was elected as deputies of the Legislative Assembly. Seven times in a row, he succeeded in re-election, most recently in 1982. MacPhail had several ministerial posts. Under Walter Russell Shaw he was 1965/66 Minister of Industry, Natural Resources and Tourism. After over a decade in opposition, he was Minister of Finance from 1979 to the governments of Angus MacLean and James Lee. Governor General Jeanne Sauvé sworn MacPhail on August 1, 1985 as the Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Iceland. This representative office he held until August 16, 1990.
