Gilbert Clements

Gilbert Ralph Clements, O.PEI ( born September 11, 1928 in Victoria Cross, Prince Edward Iceland, † November 27, 2012 in Montague, Prince Edward Iceland ) was a Canadian politician. From 1995 to 2001 he was Vice- Governor of the Province of Prince Edward Iceland.

Short Biography

Clements had a trading company for household appliances, and he later worked as a real estate agent. After several years of local politics, he ran in 1970 as a member of the Prince Edward Iceland Liberal Party with success in the elections to the Legislative Assembly. Then succeeded him six times in a row, the re-election. Clements had several ministerial posts: In the reign of Alex Campbell, he was from 1974 to 1978 Minister of Municipalities, Environment and Tourism, under Joe Ghiz 1986-1989 Finance and Minister of Culture and 1989-1993 Finance and Environment Ministers. In 1981, he had held on an interim basis the party presidency and thus was opposition leader. Governor General Roméo LeBlanc sworn Clements on 28 May 1995 as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Iceland. This representative office he held to 8 May 2001.
