Pirate Party (Finland)

The Pirate Party (Finnish Piraattipuolue, Min. Piratpartiet ) is a registered political party in Finland with approximately 3800 members. It is part of the international movement of Pirate Parties. Finland's parliamentary elections on April 17, 2011, she first appeared for election.

History

After the founding of the Swedish Piratpartiet 2006 was based thereon in the same year in Finland Tietoyhteiskuntapuolue (TYP), translates the information society party, founded. However, the TYPE could not gather the necessary 5,000 signatures of supporters to participate in the parliamentary elections in Finland 2007. As a result, party terminated the job.

On 24 May 2008, the Pirate Party was founded in Tampere after about four months of preparation. After collection of 5,000 supporters signatures it was officially registered on 13 August 2009 as a party. For the originally planned start date for the European elections in Finland 2009, however, the registration was late.

The party held its first meeting at the parliamentary elections in Finland 2011. A total of 126 candidates competed in 11 of the 14 mainland constituencies for the Pirate Party. On some lists of the Pirate Party here were also candidates to the Liberaalit ( Liberals ). In the constituency Pirkanmaan vaalipiiri was a list of connection with the party Muutos 2011 (change 2011). The Pirate Party won 0.5 % of the votes and became the strongest extra-parliamentary party.

The youth organization of the Pirate Party is called Piraattinuoret (Pirate Youth).
