Plößberg is a market in the Upper Palatinate district Tirschenreuth. The small spa resort is located in the east of the nature reserve Upper Palatinate Forest.

History

Plößberg was probably settled around 1052, the mid-12th century, the village was first mentioned. After the Counts of Sulzbach, the noble and the Plößberger Gleißenthalern, Lords of Schönkirch, Plößberg in 1350 the property of the Bohemian crown was. It was followed by several changes of ownership, wars and looting, especially during the Reformation and Counter-Reformation and the Thirty Years War. In the Middle Ages Plößberg lay on the Golden road from Nuremberg to Prague. Since 1951, Plößberg market may call. Since that time Plößberg also has its own coat of arms.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the formerly independent communities Beidl, Love Stone, Schönkirch and Wildenau were incorporated. On May 1, 1978 Schönficht and parts of territory were added to the dissolved municipality Hohenthan.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms depicts four heraldic flowers ( the Counts of Sulzbach ) and a black-silver gevierten sign represents ( Lords of Gleißenthal ).

Museums

The Glasschmelzofenbau and Glass Museum is dedicated to the craft of making of glass melting furnaces, which are indispensable for the manufacture of glass and were.

Economy and infrastructure

Has a long tradition of building glass furnaces in Plößberg. These will be built worldwide by Plößberger stove masons. The woodworking industry has greatly expanded in recent decades. There are several large, medium and small sawmills within the municipal area. The district Love Stone ( Oberpf ) lies on the railway line Wiesau - Baernau. This is decommissioned.
