Polepy (Litoměřice District)

Polepy ( German Polep, also Polepp ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic.

Geography

Polepy is located on the right side of the Elbe valley in the Blata 19 km southeast of Litoměřice. Through the town the railway from Litoměřice leads to Melnik. Polepy is from state road 240 from Roudnice traversed by Liběšice that crosses here with State Road 261 Litoměřice after Štětí.

History

The 1227 first documented village originally belonged to the Benedictine monastery of St. George in Prague. 1262 acquired the cathedral chapter in Leitmeritz parts of the village. Polepy went at the beginning of the 14th century, including the festivals in the possession of the monastery Chotěšov over. In 1623, the Lobkowicz bought the place. 1845 destroyed a fire half the village.

In the second half of the 19th century, the village experienced by the construction of the Austrian NordWestBahn an upswing. After the commissioning of the railway in 1874 Polep grew rapidly. 1880 was the site of 110 houses, 50 years ago there were only 65

Polep was inhabited predominantly German, its inhabitants lived from agriculture, dominated in the hop-growing and vegetable growing. The fertile region around Polep was called in German " Polepper plate ". It is believed that the term was derived from the Czech Blata = swamp. In 1900 the city had a population of 700. Up to this time the neighboring Hruschowan was school location and after the creation of Czechoslovakia Polep won both the German or a Czech school.

After the Second World War, the German inhabitants were expelled. Polepy was one of the few places where it was possible to compensate for the loss of population and grew into a sub- center, while the neighboring Hoštka lost its meaning.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages Polepy Encovany ( Enzowan ) Hrušovany ( Hruschowan ) Libínky ( Libenken ) Okna ( Woken ) Polepy ( Polep ) and Třebutičky ( Trebutschka ). Basic settlement units are Dolni Encovany (low Enzowan ) Encovany, Hrušovany, Libínky, Okna, Polepy, Trnová ( Trnowey ) and Třebutičky.

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Encovany, Hrušovany, Libínky, Okna u Polep, Polepy, Trnová u Polep and Třebutičky.
