History

First traces of settlement in the local area polling date from the 4th millennium BC In the tufa quarries coming back for pottery and tools from this period revealed. Parts of it are also on display in Museum of Local History and polling in the State Archaeological Collection in Munich.

According to legend, polling was founded around the year 750. Duke Tassilo III. of Bavaria was chasing a doe in the area. This stopped at once and pawed the ground. There was then found three wooden crosses. At this point, built Duke Tassilo then the Benedictines and later Augustinian Canons Monastery polling.

In the monastery church is actually placed a wooden cross, but which is derived according to studies at the earliest from the 9th century. Probably was the founder of the monastery members of Huosi, a local noble family. The first written records date from the 11th century.

The place itself was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark whose seat until 1803, the Monastery was polling. Together with the monastery Hofmark was repealed in 1803, erected in 1818, the current community.
