Račice (Litoměřice District)

Račice ( German Ratschitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located eight kilometers northeast from Roudnice in the Elbe valley and belongs to Okres Litoměřice. Gained international recognition the village by the rudder channel Račice.

Geography

The village is linkselbisch at the beginning of the Elbe loop upstream from Roudnice. North of the village, the railway line between Roudnice runs nad Labem and Melnik, the next train stop, which bears the name Hněvice, located southeast of Račice. Southwest is the developed of a sand pit rudder channel Račice.

Neighboring towns are Velešice in the north, Čakovice in the northeast, Štětí to the southeast, and Hněvice Benzínov in the south, Předonín the southwest, Záluží in the west and Kochovice in the northwest.

History

First mentioned Račice in 1295, when Wenceslas II the village the Prague bishop Tobias of Bechyně left. Acquired in 1577 by Wilhelm von Rosenberg Račice, later it was owned by the Lobkowicz family.

1960 Račice was incorporated into Štětí and is since 1989 again independently. In the 1980s, a sand pit in the Elbe loop for rowing basin was expanded in the 1986 Junior World Championships were held for the first time. 1993 took Račice the World Rowing Championships and the World Championships of the men held in canoeing. 1999 was followed by the World Championships in sailing and 2002 FISA World Masters Regatta. The sports center Račice was in 2009 hosted the U23 World Rowing Championships and from 26 to 30 August, the Dragon Boat World Championships and in the year after the Junior World Championships.
