Ralph G. Brooks

Ralph Gilmour Brooks ( born July 6, 1898 in Eustis, Frontier County, Nebraska; † September 9, 1960 in Lincoln, Nebraska ) was an American politician and from 1959 to 1960 the 30th Governor of the State of Nebraska.

Life

Ralph Brooks graduated in 1925, the Nebraska Wesleyan University. He then studied at the University of Nebraska Law, where he graduated in 1926 be. Brooks but was never active in the legal field. By 1932, he studied education in order to become a teacher can. After a successful career followed in the teaching profession. Brooks taught at various schools in Nebraska and Iowa. In McCook, he was then appointed as the Superintendent of Schools with the supervision of the schools of the city.

Policy

Brooks competed in 1942 unsuccessfully for a seat in Congress. In 1958 he was nominated by the Democratic Party as a candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election. In this he succeeded to beat the Republican incumbent Victor Emanuel Anderson. Brooks took up his new post on January 8, 1959. During his tenure, he promoted industry in Nebraska and entered for the expansion of the motorway network and improved road safety. Before the end of his tenure, Ralph Brooks died on 9 September 1960. He was married twice and had a daughter.
