Rastislav Staňa

Rastislav Staňa ( born January 10, 1980 in Košice, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak professional ice hockey goaltender who is under contract with HK CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League since 2011.

Career

Rastislav Staňa began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at TJ VSZ Kosice, in the junior level he was active until 1998. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round in 1998 when a total of 193 players from the Washington Capitals. First, however, the goalkeeper played for two years in the Canadian Junior Football League Western Hockey League for the Moose Jaw Warriors and Calgary Hitmen. From 2000 to 2002, the Slovak stood at Washington farm team, the Richmond Renegades of the East Coast Hockey League and the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League, between the posts, where he ran aground mostly in the ECHL. In the 2003 / 04 season, the national team made ​​its debut in the National Hockey League for the Washington Capitals, for he stood in six games on the ice. However, the remaining period of 2002 to 2004 he spent with the Portland Pirates of the AHL.

In the summer of 2004 Staňa first went abroad in Europe, where he received a contract with Södertälje SK of the Swedish Elitserien. After two seasons, he signed with the league rivals Malmö Redhawks, where he still moved to Linköpings HC during the 2006/07 season. With Linköping World Champion of 2002 failed in the years 2007 and 2008, twice in a row in the finals at the Swedish Championship. Then took him Severstal Cherepovets of the Kontinental Hockey League newly founded under contract, for which he completed a total of 112 KHL games until 2011. After the 2010/11 season Staňa moved within the KHL for CSKA Moscow HK.

Internationally

For Slovakia Staňa took part in the U20 World Youth Championship in 2000, as well as the World Championships in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010 in part. In addition, he was in the squad of Slovakia at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and Vancouver 2010 and the World Cup of Hockey 2004.
