Redcar and Cleveland

The Borough of Redcar and Cleveland is an independent administrative unit ( Unitary Authority ) on the north east coast of England. The belonging to the Borough area was formerly a part of the traditional county of Yorkshire. In 1974 it became a district of the newly formed county of Cleveland and was called Langbaurgh ( according to one of the former districts ( wapentakes ) of Yorkshire ). After the county of Cleveland was disbanded in 1996, Redcar and Cleveland got its current name and status of a Unitary Authority, which is administratively independent. For ceremonial occasions Redcar and Cleveland is part of the county of North Yorkshire.

For Borough includes the villages of Guisborough, Loftus, Redcar, Marske -by-the -Sea Saltburn -by-the -Sea.

Redcar and Cleveland maintains a twinning with Troisdorf (North Rhine -Westphalia).

2007 have made significant excavations archaeologists. Among other things, richly furnished grave sites were discovered. For example, the grave of an unknown princess from pre-Christian times.
