Reginald John Marsden Parker

Reginald John Marsden Parker ( born February 7, 1881 in Liskeard, Cornwall, England; † March 23, 1948 in Regina ) was a Canadian politician and farmer. From 1945 to 1948 he was vice- governor of the province of Saskatchewan.

Biography

Parker immigrated to Canada in 1898 and worked as a farm laborer until he built up a private farm in the village of Togo in the then Northwest Territories. He began to be interested in local politics and in 1904 was elected to the municipal council of Cote, from 1906 to 1932 he was mayor of this rural community. As a candidate of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party, he joined in 1929 to the elections to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan and was successful in the election district Pelly.

After the Liberals had won the 1934 election, Parker was as Minister for Municipal Affairs at the Cabinet of James Garfield Gardiner. He exercised ten years from this office until the election victory of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation in 1944. Governor General Lord Athlone sworn Parker on June 22, 1945 as Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. This representative office he held until his death.
