Régis Clère

Régis Clère ( born August 15, 1956 in Langres, † June 9, 2012 in Dijon ) was a French cyclist.

Career

Clère began in 1978 with the sport of cycling, he was an all-rounder to rail and road. Even as an amateur, he took part in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, finishing in 43rd place in the road race.

As a professional, he was 1981 French champion in the points race and vice - champion in the individual pursuit. In the Vuelta a España 1981 Clère won a stage and wore nine days the leaders jersey. In 1982 he became French champion in the road race. Clère started six times in the Tour de France: In 1982, he was awarded the most aggressive rider, 1983, he won a 1987 two stages. His last overall victory he celebrated in 1987 at the Route du Sud. In the UCI Track World Championships 1989 he finished third in the individual pursuit.

Régis Clère died on 9 June 2012 during heart surgery.
