Reinach

Reinach (Basel German: Riinech ) is a municipality in the district of Arlesheim in the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland. The second largest after Allschwil municipality in the canton of Basel-Land is located at 303 m asl

Geography

Reinach is located at the southern foot of the brother wood in Birstal and has a short border connection with the city of Basel. The eastern boundary of the municipality is the Birs river with its dense riverine forest and the Reinacherheide. This heath is a bird paradise and you will find many botanical rarities. Neighboring municipalities are Arlesheim, Munich stone, Bottmingen, Oberwil, Therwil, Aesch, as well as the city of Basel and Dornach, Kanton Solothurn. The area of the municipality is 700 hectares, of which 29 % agricultural land, 17 % forest, 53 % settlements and 1% non-productive area.

History

The oldest archaeological finds ( graves and tools) go back to the Middle Stone Age. In Ortsbebiet 2002-2005 findings of about 7,000 were made ​​in the years to 800 BC, the Bronze Age (1800 - 800 BC ) is represented somewhat sparse, but prove ceramics, a broken carpet from Mausacker, tombs and jewels, that Reinach was inhabited even in this time. Also from the La Tène period ( 800-100 BC) were found graves and from the Roman period (from 100 BC) cremations, coins, tableware, glass vessels, and much more. A highly stylized and weathered Hallstatt grave stele from Sundgauer molasses was found in 1973 in the Hubackerstrasse.

The first written records in which Reinach is mentioned as Rinacho dates from the reign of Louis Garewart, who was from 1164 to 1176 Bishop of Basel. In 1194, it was noted that Reinach belonged to the monastery Beinwil.

At the big Basel earthquake in 1356, a large part of the village was destroyed. 1373 became the diocese of Basel in debt and Reinach was pledged to Messrs. Hannemann and Ulrich von Ramstein.

As 1501 Basel joined the Old Confederacy, Reinach remained a part of the diocese of Basel. The Reinacherstrasse had until 1511 to Pfeffingen go to church and then received their own parish with a village church. From 1525 Reinach was reformed, but returned in 1595, under the Bishop of Basel Jakob Christoph Blarer of Wartensee, back to the old faith back.

As a result of the French Revolution fled in 1792 the Bishop of Basel, and the Birseck was occupied by French troops. 34 % of the population are Roman Catholic, reformed 30%. The proportion of foreigners is 17.6 %.

Economy

Reinach part of the economy in Northwest Switzerland and Basel agglomeration. Therefore, many well-known companies have settled in the city in recent years. Especially the two spacious industrial zones Kägen and Schönmatt provide space for it. An advantage also provides the connection to the valley road H18 ( highway ) which connects in turn with Basel Reinach, the rest of Switzerland, Italy, Germany and France.
