Richard Kuthan

Richard " Rigo " Kuthan ( born July 3, 1891 † February 10, 1958 ) was an Austrian football player and national team of the early 20th century.

Career

Rigo Kuthan came back in 1906 as a 15 -year-old to Rapid Vienna and led the young team from Hütteldorf in 1911/12 as captain for the first championship in club history. The learned Striker was from 1911 to 1925 with a break in play in 1916 /17, fabled for 15 years Team Captain and the undisputed symbol of the Rapid- Eleven.

In his time Kuthan was one of the smartest Centre Forward in Austria and by his unselfish play the perfect addition to bomber Josef Uridil. In 1922, he was charged with 22 hits as the second Rapidler after Uridil Austrian scorer. In 1913 and 1914 he was the best club scorer with 14 and 13 goals and in 1916 he should have scored with 25 hits, the highest goal tally in the championship. The official rating of scorers, however, was not introduced until 1921.

With Rapid Wien in-law of longtime section conductor and coach Dionys Schönecker and architect engineer Eduard Schönecker conquered (builder Rapid Field, Stadium Hohewarte ) a total of eight times the Austrian championship and twice won the Vienna Cup. Despite its relationship to Schönecker confronted by this in 1925 from the team and had to give way to a rejuvenation process with other arrivierten players. Kuthan graduated from the season 1926/27, the SC Wacker Wien with whom he reached the eighth place in the championship. In the season 1928/29, the now 38 - year-old striker won with the Green-Whites his last championship and once again celebrated the move into the semifinals of the Mitropacups. There, however, against the Hungarian team Újpesti FC was premature terminus. Overall Kuthan came in Mitropacup to six inserts, scoring one goal. His tomb is located on the Baumgartner cemetery in Vienna ( group 21, Number 19).

National

On December 22, 1912 Rigo Kuthan was first drafted into the Austrian national team. In the match against Italy, which was held in Genoa, he contributed the second goal for a 3-1 triumph of the Austrians. Overall, the congenial center forward played in 24 games selection for Austria, scoring 14 goals. His last international match, he denied on May 6, 1928 in Vienna 3-0 to Yugoslavia. An interesting aspect in this international game was the debut of the team later Wonder Team goalie Rudi Hiden, which also ushered in a generation change in Austrian football.
