Rick Carey

Richard ( "Rick" ) John Carey ( born March 13, 1963 in Mount Kisco, New York ) is a retired American swimmer.

His first big competition should be the 1980 Moscow Olympics, but he could not participate in these games because of the Olympic boycott of the United States. In 1981 he won at the U.S. Championships title in both the 100m and 200m backstroke. In 1982, he was the 200 m backstroke and the 4 × 100 m medley relay world champion. At the World Championships in Guayaquil In 1983 he was elected as World Swimmer of the Year. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, he became Olympic champion in the 100 m and 200 m backstroke and the 4 × 100 m medley relay. In 1986 he finished his successful career, during which he set numerous world records.

In 1993 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
