David Theile

David Theile ( born January 17, 1938 in Maryborough ) is a former Australian swimmer.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 and at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, he was over 100 m backstroke each Olympic champion. He also won at the Games in Rome with the medley relay, the Australian silver medal.

After the international swimming federation announced after the Olympics that the 100 m backstroke should be replaced in the competition program against the 200 m backstroke, part ended his career. In 1968 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
