Geography

Geographical Location

The municipality is located in Riesbürg Ries about five kilometers west of Nordlingen.

Community structure

The municipality consists of two spatially separated by Bopfinger part of a territory, a northern with the districts Pflaumloch and Goldburghausen and the southern part with Utzmemmingen.

The municipality Riesbürg with the formerly independent communities Goldburghausen, Pflaumloch and Utzmemmingen include five villages, farms and houses. For the former municipality Goldburghausen part of the village Goldburghausen. For the former municipality Pflaumloch part of the village Pflaumloch. For the former municipality Utzmemmingen include the village Utzmemmingen, the homestead Altenbürg and the house Ringlesmühle and Outbound village Rysmühle.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Kirchheim am Ries, on the east by the Bavarian town of Nördlingen, in the south on the town Neresheim and to the west by the city Bopfingen.

History

In the course of municipal reform in Baden- Württemberg were on April 1, 1972, the municipality Goldburghausen and incorporated into the parish Utzmemmingen after Pflaumloch on 1 January 1973. The community Pflaumloch was renamed on 25 July 1973 in Riesbürg. Riesbürg is an artificial name which refers to the nearby Ries. The syllable guarantees linked the reference to former castles and fortresses in the district Utzmemmingen. Even today, there is the Old Bürg.

The districts of the church today are all since the beginning of the 19th century Württemberg, where they were assigned to the upper office Neresheim. In 1938 she came to the district of Aalen, with whom she aufgingen by the district reform in 1973 in the new Ostalb.

Pflaumloch

Right on the B 29 between Aalen and Nördlingen is the administrative seat of the municipality with about 1000 inhabitants and around 350 industrial jobs.

The place Pflunloch was first documented in 1246, but the place was at least 1503 itself called Pflaulach. By Reichsdeputationshauptschluss In 1803 Oettingen -Wallerstein, among others, the monastery Kirchheim am Ries awarded, including many properties in Pflaumloch. As part of the mediatization Oettingensche the area in 1806, first became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria and then in 1810 by exchange of territory to the Kingdom of Württemberg. Utzmemmingen

Utzmemmingen is surrounded by Bavarian places at the foot of the Swabian Alb. The town has approximately 1,100 inhabitants of the largest in the municipality Riesbürg. Since 1972, the city must advertise as a nationally recognized resort. Utzmemmingen was first mentioned in 852 in a document. How Pflaumloch was the place due to the Imperial Diet in 1806, first losing to the Kingdom of Bavaria, but then went four years later by exchange of territory to the Kingdom of Württemberg.

Goldburghausen

Goldburghausen has approximately 300 inhabitants of the smallest town of the community. He was first mentioned in 1276. The place belonged to the imperial city of Nördlingen long and came in the early 19th century to the Kingdom of Württemberg.

Religions

Christianity

The district is predominantly Catholic Utzmemmingen marked as belonging to the German Order Coming Kapfenburg had prevented the introduction of the Reformation. Center of the parish is St. Martin's Church. The church was built in 1742 in place of an earlier church which had to be demolished due to disrepair. In Pflaumloch there is both an evangelical ( church Pflaumloch ) and a Roman Catholic church. In Goldburghausen the other hand, already in 1543 continued through the Reformation. However, the present Protestant St. Michael's Church of the parish Goldburghausen is already detectable pre-Reformation period.

Judaism

In Pflaumloch Jews had lived since 1487. The synagogue was established in 1703. It burned down in 1802, the reconstruction was inaugurated in 1846. The owner donated the house in 1907 the municipality, which uses it as a city hall since 1963. The Jewish cemetery established in 1840 still exists today.

Policy

The municipality is a member of the Agreed administrative community of the city Bopfingen.

Sponsorships

A long sponsorship is to be stationed in Ellwangen Bundeswehr units. The annual highlight is the Guest shooting at the Pate Company.

Twinning

1973 initiated the then independent municipality and current Teilort Utzmemmingen a partnership with the French city of Esvres -sur -Indre in Touraine (now the department of Indre -et- Loire). For the community Riesbürg was given in recognition of this contribution to Europe on 15 October 1993, the European flag.

Attractions

Museums

In Goldburghausen is the Goldberg Museum. Here is an exhibition about the colonization of the Goldbergs in the Stone Age.

Natural Monuments

On the outskirts of Utzmemmingen, but already on Nördlinger hall, there are the large and the small Ofnethöhle. In the caves, human skulls have been found from the Stone Age to the early 20th century. All skull looked to the west.

At the foot of Ofnet caves are the remains of a Roman manor (villa rustica). There are still the restored plans of the former building to see.

Between Plaumloch and Goldburghausen the gold mountain rises. In the nature reserve around the Goldberg and the adjacent heath many rare animals and plants can be found.

The 652 meter high peak is located on the ears Riesrand between Utzmemmingen and Bopfingen - Härtsfeld Hausen.

Sports

The municipality has an extensive sports and leisure facilities such as football, tennis and judo. This can also be operated successfully in various clubs in part.

Economy and infrastructure

The structures in the community are essentially rural in nature. In addition to numerous craft shops are located in the municipality of several industrial companies. These companies are mainly located in the main town Pflaumloch.

Traffic

By Riesbürg the federal road runs 29 ( Waiblingen- Nördlingen ). At the breakpoint Pflaumloch at the Ries Railway ( Aalen- Donauwörth ) hold regional trains. This former station was built back in the 1980s to the breakpoint.

Education

In Pflaumloch and Utzmemmingen there is one elementary school. There are also geweils a Roman Catholic ( in Utzmemmingen ) and Protestant ( in Pflaumloch ) Kindergarten.
