Robert Grondelaers

Robert Grondelaers ( born February 28, 1933 Opglabbeek; † August 22, 1989 ) was a Belgian racing cyclist, in 1952 per an Olympic gold and silver medal won.

Grondelaers had little racing experience when he took in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki together with the two born in 1931, André and Lucien Victor Noyelle for Belgium in the road race. After 190 kilometers and a little over five hours Noyelle won with almost fifty seconds ahead of Grondelaers, just one minutes behind the German Edi Ziegler and Lucien Victor rolled across the finish line. The team score was determined according to the added time of the first three riders of these countries, the Belgians won thirteen minutes ahead of the Italians.

1953 Grondelaers won a stage of the Tour of Britain and finished in a stage of the Tour of Belgium in second place. On May 5, 1954 Grondelaers began at the Belgian team Plume sports a professional career that, with a break in 1960, lasted until 1962 and in the Grondelaers went out front places.
