Ron Vlaar Peter (born 16 February 1985 in Hensbroek ) is a Dutch footballer who is active as a defender in the Dutch national team and Aston Villa in the English Premier League.
Career
As a child Vlaar played six years in Apollo'68, before moving to SVW'27 from Heerhugowaard. Here he drew attention to himself that brought him to the youth of the Ehrendivisionärs in the D Youth Scouts from AZ Alkmaar. In AZ Vlaar was eight and a half years of operating, it began in the 2004/05 season his professional career. The 1.89 meter tall defender slid to the away game in Waalwijk on April 23, 2005 in the policy pursued by injury problems first team. Only five days later, he came in the UEFA Cup semi-final against Sporting Lisbon at his first international use; in the return game, he was there when AZ in the 120th minute suffered a hit by Miguel Garcia and thus missed the final seconds to on away goals. Two more league games Vlaar made in the 2004/05 season, seven in the following season for AZ, plus two more UEFA Cup matches. In October 2005, he was first appointed to the national team.
During the winter break Vlaar moved to Feyenoord, where he received the same a regular place with his first match on January 15, 2006 at Vitesse. 16 games he made for the Rotterdam until the end of the season. In the 2006/07 season he missed due to injury, much of the first round, but struggled before the winter break back into the team and scored on 17 December 2006 at the FC Utrecht his first league goal. The 2007/08 season also began promisingly until Vlaar was forced off injured on 16 September 2007 at the game in Kerkrade in the 41st minute. The rest of this and the entire 2008/09 season he had to sit in the foot because of the cruciate ligament injury on his left knee and a tear; nevertheless Feyenoord extended his contract until 2012. At the start of the 2009/10 season he returned to the team. By March 2010, he made 25 Eredivisiespiele for the Rotterdam and scored two goals, including the winning goal for FC Groningen to 3:2 in the final minute after Groningen had only made up two minutes before a 0:2 residue.
In summer 2012, Vlaar Feyenoord left for England. He signed for Premier League club Aston Villa a three-year contract which ties him until 2015 to the team from Birmingham.
National
Vlaar had 2005 with good performance attracted attention in AZ and at the Junior European Championships, where he reached the quarter-finals with the hosts. Bond coach Marco van Basten appointed him to the squad of the national team, in which he made his debut on 8 October 2005 in Prague in a 2-0 victory in the World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic, as he, after 57 minutes for the former Hamburg Khalid Boulahrouz came on. In the next match against Macedonia, he did not play, but received on 12 November 2005 with a friendly against Italy a place in the starting XI. After he had achieved in the 1-3 defeat in Amsterdam just before half time an own goal and his opponent Luca Toni after the break up another goal, he was replaced in the 60th minute against André Ooijer. His international career in the A selection seemed to have ended. With the U- 21 team, he was European champion in 2006. In 2007 he was captain of the U- 21; his team defended their title at the U-21 European Championship. After a long injury he played through good performances at Feyenoord in the 2009/10 season as an alternative in central defense in the A-team back; Bert van Marwijk joined him on 3 March 2010 in a friendly against the United States after a half- time for Joris Mathijsen. After the 2010 World Cup van Marwijk Vlaar appointed captain of the Orange team, which took in Ukraine on 11 August 2010 in the first friendly match of the season 2010/11. In the squad for this match but lacked the players used in the World Cup in South Africa.
