Rudy Dhaenens

Rudy Dhaenens ( born April 10, 1961 in Deinze, † April 6, 1998 in Aalst ) was a Belgian racing cyclist.

Rudy Dhaenens celebrated a surprising success, as he won the world road championship in Japan in 1990. In the same year he was also second in the cycling World Cup and honored as Belgian athlete of the year.

After some minor success Dhaenens ' career was ended because of heart problems in 1992. In 1998, he was killed in his car on the way to target the Tour of Flanders in Ninove - Meerbek where he was to accompany as a co- commentator for the television Euro Sport the race. To him, the GP Rudy Dhaenens was named in honor.
