Rudy Pevenage

Rudy Pevenage ( born June 15, 1954 in Moerbeke, Belgium ) is a former professional cyclist and was sports director of the German team Telekom and T -Mobile. In addition, he was a long time personal advisor of Jan Ullrich.

Career

As a driver

1980 won Pevenage the itinerary around Gippingen. In the same year he won the second stage of the Tour de France with the team DAF Trucks and then drove 9 stages in the yellow jersey. At the end of the tour he won with 184 points for the green jersey in front of Sean Kelly ( 153 points).

As a sports director and supervisor

Rudy Pevenage was until the end of 2002 sports director of Team Telekom. After Jan Ullrich had to leave the team because of a doping suspension, Pevenage accompanied him in early 2003 for Team Coast, where he was sports director and personal advisor of Jan Ullrich. After the financial collapse of the team in May 2003 Pevenage organized with Bianchi a new main sponsor. Pevenage was team leader of the Bianchi team and led the team restructured the Tour de France where you could shine through Jan Ullrich with a stage win and second place in the overall standings. End of 2003, Ullrich announced his return to his old employer known of the now as a team drove T -Mobile race. The Team Bianchi was dissolved. Rudy Pevenage remained as a personal advisor to Jan Ullrich's side; but he was not involved in the T-Mobile team, as team boss Walter Godefroot Pevenage had stated on his farewell 2002 persona non grata.

End of 2005, Walter Godefroot withdrew from the T-Mobile team and Olaf Ludwig took over the position as team boss, who hired Rudy Pevenage again as sporting director.

For the 2009 season was Pevenage sports director for the U.S. team "Rock Racing". In February 2010 Pevenage explained that he no longer had held this position due to lack of salary payments since late 2009.

Doping tangles

Shortly before the 2006 Tour de France Pevenage and Ullrich were involved in the doping scandal Fuentes and suspended from the team management on the basis of documents of the Spanish police until further notice. After publication of further evidence Pevenage was dismissed retroactively as of June 30, on 9 July 2006. The doping allegations refer to several intercepted telephone conversations with doping doctor Fuentes Eufemiano which were made by a Belgian mobile phone number. The content of the phone calls and text messages pointed to the procurement of doping agents and enriched with EPO Blood Bank. However, the allegations could not be proved. The Belgian telephone numbers could not be unambiguously assigned to now. In July 2010 Pevenage said in an interview with the French newspaper " L'Equipe ", "Why it should be good to go on lying I have organized trips from Jan to Madrid to Fuentes? . "
