Rünenberg is a municipality in the district of Sissach the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

Rünenberg is located on 595 m above sea level. M. and is located at the foot of the 1001m high Wisenbergs, on the plateau "mountain" between the Homburgertal and the Eital. Among his mats of the base tunnel of the railway Hauenstein line performs. Its neighboring municipalities are Kilchberg, Gelterkinden, Tecknau, Häfelfingen, Rümlingen and Zeglingen.

History

The first mention of the village in 1102 as Runachperh and then was called in 1454 Runenberg. The Roman road which connected with Sommerau Zeglingen, led over Rünenberg. In 1392 the Bishop of Basel Count Hermann von Thierstein enfeoffed with the court of Rünenberg. Rünenberg was one of five places in which met the district courts of the Sisgaus under the open sky. 1461 Rünenberg came to the city of Basel, in the Helvetic the district Gelterkinden and 1803 at the Basel Canton separation 1833 half-canton of Basel-Land and District Sissach.

Rünenberg is the home of three famous men:

  • Martin Grieder aka Martin Birmann, the great pioneer of social Baselbiet
  • Niklaus Riggenbach, the builder of the Vitznau- Rigi -Bahn
