Tenniken

Tenniken is a municipality in the district of Sissach the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

Tenniken lies in the valley of the Diegtertals, on the slope of the upper Gisiberges. Adjacent communities are Diegten, Diepflingen, Hölstein, Thürnen, Wittinsburg and Zunzgen.

Coat of arms

Since 1944 Tenniken has an official coat of arms. It is divided by a vertical line into two halves. On the left side is a Gothic "T" is on a golden background, on the right side are three black slashes imaged on a silver background. The coat of arms was adopted by the rule Eschenz to which the community once belonged.

History

1226 Tenniken was first mentioned: as " Tenninchon ". After belonging to the reign of Eschenz ownership at the beginning of the 15th century were unclear. Basel and Solothurn were interested. 1482 fell to the rule of Basel. From 1798 Tenniken belonged to the district of Waldenburg, Canton after the breakup, it was annexed to the District Sissach.
