Geographical Location

Sankt Oswald- Riedl cottage is situated in the Donau -Wald Bavarian Forest inside about 6 km north of Grafenau and is adjacent to the Bavarian Forest National Park as well as the Czech Republic. History

Sankt Oswald- Riedlhutte now in the district of Lower Bavaria belonged to the Electorate of Bavaria and monastery Sankt Oswald. The monastery had here a closed Hofmark with low court rights. Riedlhutte belonged to Rentamt Straubing and the district court Bärnstein.

1450 was built at the site one of the oldest glass factories in the Bavarian Forest, the Riedlhutte. She was in operation until 22 December 2009.

On old maps of the region, a lock is shown that stood in Reichenberg. It was a hunting lodge and served the bear hunting in the Bavarian Forest. It was burned down during the Thirty Years' War.

In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818 the church today with the name Oswald. In 1875 the name was changed to St. Oswald. On 1 May 1978, there was a land swap with the neighboring town of Spiegelau, which were gaining about 200 inhabitants. Originally it was planned the railway line Zwiesel -Grafenau to lay by the municipality.
