History

Church Planting

As part of the municipal reform in Saxony in 1994 was aimed to form communities with a minimum size of 3000 inhabitants. Thus, smaller rural communities were invited initially volunteered to look for potential partners. In Schmölln you preferred a tie-up at eye level with a partner in rural areas instead of incorporation in the neighboring town of Bischofswerda. For this purpose came Demitz - Thumitz and Putzkau into consideration. Finally they agreed with Putzkau, which was to be the seat of the local government as the greater common place for both place names should be continued in future community name. In Tröbigau is first aimed at a merger with the Eastern neighbors Gaussig, but in this case failed the accession negotiations, so you also opted for a merger with the neighboring villages Schmölln and Putzkau, especially in particular to Schmölln has long been a close bond existed.

The merger was completed on 1 March 1994, a few days later the previously reigning in the community Schmölln Wolfhard Venus was elected the new mayor of the total community. Then voices were raised in Putzkau and Tröbigau to name the new community only after the largest district Putzkau. However, this was rejected in Schmölln, on the grounds that this district has a long history and is economically and culturally equivalent to the community with transferring. So a petition was started and written a petition to the parliament of Saxony, who eventually also decreed that the previously adopted community name Schmölln- Putzkau was retained.

Perspective

Despite numerous efforts, it could not succeed to this day, to establish a common Schmölln plaster Kauer identity. The residents of the two major districts Schmölln and Putzkau often find themselves at a disadvantage compared to the other one, the small districts Tröbigau and Neuschmölln see into insignificance. Since the 2009 local elections, there is also a tense relationship between the incumbent since council and the mayor, which can not be understood by most citizens of the community.

By 2013, the Free State of Saxony aims at further municipal reform, this time should be the minimum number of inhabitants per municipality 5000. For voluntary associations until the end of 2012 so-called wedding premiums are promised. In Schmölln- Putzkau consists of the above mentioned reasons only limited interest in the continued existence of the community, so that is a look around since the beginning of 2011 reinforced by potential merger partners. Also, a break-up of the community and a union of the individual districts to various neighboring communities seem feasible at the moment. That is why an initiative called Quo vadis, Schmölln- Putzkau was launched in March 2011, in which the citizens could communicate separately by districts, their preferences for the future of the community. At participated in the survey 35% of all households in the community. A large majority of 75 % advocated a merger with a neighboring community from before the end of 2012. In preference the partner of the trend is clearly to the city Bischofswerda (56% ), followed by Neukirch / Lausitz (20 %) and Demitz - Thumitz (16 %). The trend is similar in all districts, in each case, the location for the district closest municipality cuts relatively better.
