Schönbach, Saxony

Schoenbach ( Upper Sorbian Šumbach ) is a municipality in the district Görlitz, Saxony, Saxony, in the southeast near the border with North Bohemia (Czech Republic).

Geography and transport

The community Schönenbach lies in the southwestern part of the district, nearly 10 kilometers southwest of Lobau in the Lusatian mountains. The Federal Highway 96 and the railroad track (Dresden ) Bischofswerda -Zittau run south of the community.

By Schönenbach reversed from 1892 to 1945, the 12 km long narrow gauge railway pigeons home Dürrhennersdorf. It led from pigeons home / Spree OppachEquipment after Dürrhennersdorf.

History

On May 1, 1306 Schönenbach was first mentioned as " Sconenbuch " documentary. The name means something like " beautiful book on Bach". The place itself is likely to be at least 100 years older than in 1200 Franconian immigrants populated the region of Upper Lusatia. The town was under from 1419 as a village council of the city of Lobau. Since 1600 there have been two manors ( Upper and Lower Schönenbach ). By 1860, the regular postal service began with the stagecoach on the track Lobau - Schönenbach - Spremberg.

Culture and sights

These are the church with its bronze bell-ringing, the thatched half-timbered house in the low- village, the disused quarry and the historic stone saw in Neudorf.

The Schönbacher flower festivals

In the years 1955 to 1958, four " flower festivals " organized. After 70,000 guests in 1956 and about 100,000 visitors in 1957, in 1958 more than 130,000 guests enjoyed the decorated with a variety of colorful flowers floats, each embodied an issue. The event was the authorities soon too big and too apolitical. In October 1958, the end of the event was heralded on the culture conference in Magdeburg. In 2006, a flower festival was held on the occasion of the 700th anniversary again.
