Séchin

Séchin is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Séchin is located on 358 m, 6 km west of Baume- les -Dames and 23 km east-northeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, on a plateau, which connects north to the Doubs Valley, on the southern edge of the Bois du Grand Val

The area of ​​1.09 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 350 m and is inclined slightly to the south to the Doubs Valley. It consisted mainly of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. To the north, the municipality's area extends over a gently rising slope to the Grove of the Bois du Grand Val, in the 398 meters, the highest elevation of Séchin is achieved. In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring communities of Séchin are Baume- les -Dames in the north, Gros Bois and Fourbanne in the east, Ougney - Douvot in the south and Breconchaux in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Séchin belonged to the rule Clerval, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. After 1944 resistance fighters had opposed a German squad during the Second World War, the village Séchin was set as a reprisal fire and killed six people.

Population

With 133 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Séchin is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 25 and 50 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s. Since then, the population has nearly tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Séchin was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N83, which runs from Besançon to Montbéliard. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which crosses the municipality, is located at a distance of about 10 km. Further road links exist with Ougney - Douvot and Breconchaux.
